AH Golden Needle School – Sewing the Seed of Independence

On February 25th, 2011, Amaana Hands established the Golden Needle School in Cambodia. The goal of this school is to enable women to develop a skill that is valued by the community and will ultimately secure them a steady income. A total of ten professional sewing machines were purchased by Amaana Hands as well as sewing materials such as cloth and yarn. AH also pays the salary for the professional teacher and her assistant. As a result of this, there are two classes held daily. Recently our students of the Golden Needle School were commissioned by a local organization in Cambodia to sew sisters’ prayer garments for Ramadan. With your Zakaah, AH has given them money as capital for this business venture. Samples of the sewing garments were sent to the AH office in New York and proof of the excellent craftsmanship that is being taught to the Cambodian sisters.
